The Sentinel

WELCOME to this week's music column from Signal 2. Here we give you the opportunity to find out about new albums that are out or about to be released.

This week John Barrowman, the ubiquitous star of stage and screen on both sides of the Atlantic, releases a selection of his best loved songs, along with two brand new tracks, including new single I Owe It All To You. These are all classic tracks that have featured in John's career and helped chart his path to becoming Britain's best loved all round entertainer.

John has had an incredible year, with Torchwood becoming a co production between the BBC and Starz Network, making him a prime time star in the US. He has also managed to present a new series of Tonight's The Night, tour the UK in his sell out concert and write a children's book. And he also found time to win the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special!

Tonight's The Night: The Very Best of John Barrowman is John's fourth release with Sony Music. Another Side, Music Music Music and John Barrowman have all been very successful, and this new release adds to his musical canon by highlighting his amazing musical career thus far. His new composition is a searing ballad produced by Metrophonic and there's a cover of the Rod Stewart classic Tonight's The Night.

Also this week let me tell you about an album to look out for soon, featuring one of the nicest American singers I've ever met Johnny Mathis.

The Ultimate Collection charts Johnny's music over two generations and are songs that have made him one of the biggest selling solo artists of all time. It also coincides with his first UK tour in five years.

It charts his hits from the very early days with classics like A Certain Smile and Maria, through chart success with Misty to pop hits like Gone, Gone, Gone and Stone In Love With You. His 80's duet with Deniece Williams is also featured, plus his Christmas number 1 the moving When A Child Is Born. This is a must-have collection from the Texan born star whose career started in 1956, and has seen him sell over 350 million albums world wide.

He is also one of five artistes to have Top 40 hits spanning four decades.

That's it for this week. You can hear more on my show on DAB Digital Radio and 1170am Signal 2 weekdays from 3pm. Next week Simon Morykin brings you up to date with the latest singles being released.
